Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine helps to remove any excess of Qi or to support any deficiency of Qi. There are more than 18,000 healing herbs documented with millions of combinations, called formulae. Bio-energy imbalances are treated with herbal formulae tailored to the individual’s particular signs and symptoms, because external symptoms are physiological reflections of internal imbalances in the energy system.
Herbal medicine may be prepared in the form of pills, or powders, or raw herbal teas. Pills can be taken with warm water. Powders need to be dissolved in hot water then drink. Herb teas should be soaked then boiled, and brewed into a medicinal tea at home for drinking.
Herbal medicine can help patients with internal diseases (e.g. cold/flu, bronchitis, asthma, rheumatic arthritis, gastritis, nephritis), cancer, menstrual disorders, infertility, skin problems (e.g., eczema, psoriasis, shingles, acne, scleroderma), hemorrhoids, etc.
At ACMC, herbal formulae are prescribed according to the diagnosis. Dr Shi is qualified to formulate personalized herbal medicines based on Chinese medical theory. She holds an active licence through the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners & Acupuncturists of British Columbia to prescribe, compound and dispense Chinese herbal medicine.
